About
Impetus is Danny Watson.
A mechanical engineer turned software developer, building websites, business technology and custom systems since founding Impetus in 2013.
Why it's small
You know exactly who you're hiring.
Impetus doesn't pretend to be a 20-person agency. When you hire Impetus, you hire Danny: the same person who learns your process, recommends the approach, writes the code and answers when something needs to change.
That's a deliberate choice. It means direct access, honest recommendations and someone who will still be supporting your systems years after they launch.
It also means a clear boundary. Impetus offers only what Danny can personally support, from websites and business email to custom ERP and CRM systems.
Background
Engineering first, then software.
An engineer's habit of measuring the process before changing it carries into every project.
2013
Founded Impetus
Started building personalized websites and software as an alternative to templates and oversized packaged products. RoofHQ, ServHQ and StormHQ followed.
2012–2013
Solutions Engineer, Amada America
Analyzed customers' manufacturing processes and built an automated Excel-to-PowerPoint reporting tool that cut presentation prep from about 8 hours to under 1.
2010–2012
Specialist, Temple-Inland
Built Visual Basic applications for product specifications and plant operations, including one that cut order entry from about 15 minutes to 5.
2008–2011
Mechanical Engineering, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
Graduated in three and a half years, with coursework spanning computer science, control systems and mechanical design.
2005–2010
